Washington, D.C.
Saffordabikes aims to improve the current bike system in terms of safety and affordability by providing better-designed lanes and installing more stations, specifically in the most deprived neighborhoods.
The nation’s capital still has several poorly designed bike lanes: built in the middle of avenues and streets or completely unprotected.
As one can observe on the map, most bike collisions are concentrated in the downtown and most congested areas, such as Georgetown and Adams Morgan, where there are many shops, bars, and restaurants.
